Harnessing the Power of “X”: PBX Engineering’s Transformative Rebrand
PBX Engineering provides specialized electrical and systems engineering consulting services across sectors such as transportation, industrial, municipal utilities, and integrated security. Known for enhancing safety, efficiency, and resiliency, the company supports both large-scale infrastructure projects and smaller, integrated systems with tailored solutions. As PBX evolved and rebranded to reflect its multidisciplinary expertise and growth, it required a new visual identity to align with its vision.
Boyle Design partnered with PBX to craft a visual identity that embraced its legacy while symbolizing its innovative and client-focused approach.

A Visual Identity Rooted in Innovation and Precision
To capture PBX’s growth and industry positioning, the new visual identity needed to balance simplicity with industry relevance.
The letter “X” became a central motif in the identity system, representing the company’s unique value proposition as the variable—the “unknown” that adapts to meet the diverse and evolving needs of its clients. This concept symbolized PBX’s tailored, client-focused solutions and its ability to address complex challenges across multiple engineering disciplines.
Where we saw opportunity and brand story potential was in the letter ‘X’. This was the ‘variable’ letter in the name, the unknown or placeholder value, or the indeterminate element. From the business’ viewpoint and its unique ability to deliver highly customized results, ‘X’ represented the tailored solution for clients.


The resulting logo and identity system were crafted for versatility, ensuring seamless application across a variety of mediums and contexts, from technical documentation to digital platforms. The visual identity reflected PBX’s transformation into a leading multidisciplinary engineering firm, reinforcing its high standards and reputation for delivering innovative, customized solutions.



PBX has expanded its portfolio with the introduction of XTECH, a new business that draws inspiration from and builds upon the core essence of the PBX brand. We were also asked to design the new visual identity program for XTECH.
Leveraging the strength and adaptability of PBX’s brand, XTECH seamlessly extends the story into a fresh context, embodying innovation and evolution. This strategic pivot not only reflects the dynamic capabilities of PBX but also positions XTECH as a forward-thinking entity that elevates the company’s offerings to a higher level, capturing new opportunities and reaching broader audiences.
